Missionaries of Charity/Queen of Peace Residence
This is a Roman Catholic religious congregation established in 1950 by the Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
The Missionaries of Charity work with "the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind… all those people who feel unwanted, unloved, uncared for throughout society,” said its founder. Women religious, lay Catholics and non-Catholics give "wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor.”
Those served include drug addicts, homeless men and women, patients with AIDS and unwed mothers. Missionaries of Charity also run soup kitchens, provide emergency shelter, teach catechism in poor parishes and visits needy families.
