Monsignor Kevin Sullivan on the Death of Pope Francis

Catholic Charities joins the Church and the world in mourning the death of Pope Francis. In consistently raising up the plight of the poorest and most vulnerable, his pastoral ministry resonated with the mission and work of Catholic Charities. He challenged Catholic Charities to deepen and increase our obligation to see in those we help the face of God, by respecting their dignity, and by accompanying them toward a future of greater hope.  This was beautifully exemplified when Catholic Charities was blessed to welcome Pope Francis to a simple school gym in East Harlem. There he received gifts and blessed migrants from every continent who had come to make their new home in New York.  The best tribute to Pope Francis will be a renewed commitment by each of us in our own way to help ensure our world makes room at the table for those too often forgotten.  May Pope Francis rest in peace.
