As members of the greater New York family, we remember and mourn the life of Police Officer Jason Rivera – a shining star and hero. Catholic Charities was blessed to witness this first-hand, as he attended our Alianza youth programs in northern Manhattan during his formative years. His death touches us deeply.
That the tragedy occurred within the shadow of Catholic Charities Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Harlem Community Center adds even more anguish. As his partner Police Officer Wilbert Mora remains in grave condition, we pray that God may provide comfort to their loved ones, friends and the 32nd precinct family, and all NYPD officers.
We also pray for those impacted by heart wrenching domestic violence as we recommit ourselves to the importance of family and the support necessary to strengthen families.
We must never forget the holiness and fragility of life – all life – and the dedication of those sworn to protect and nourish it.
