“Is there a need that we can meet?” For Debra Presti, that question guided her 16-year career at Catholic Charities. As she retires, she leaves behind a legacy of service rooted in compassion, empathy, and a commitment to social justice.
Throughout her career, Debra focused on meeting the needs of the most vulnerable populations, from asylum seekers to families facing housing instability. Her work was grounded in a deep belief in the dignity of every individual. “The asylum seekers taught me how to live better,” she reflects. “Their resilience and determination reminded me of the strength of the human spirit and kept me grounded.”
Debra’s career was marked by creative problem-solving and innovation. She played a vital role in expanding housing support services, navigating complex immigration challenges, and supporting youth struggling with mental health issues. Now, as she transitions into retirement, Debra plans to focus on her health and family. Although Debra will be stepping away from full-time work, she intends to stay connected to Catholic Charities through consulting opportunities. “I’m not done yet,” she says with a smile.
