Catholic Charities Community Services (CCCS) and the Immigrant Justice Corps released a new Partnership Report reviewing their five years of collaborative impact serving Lower Hudson Valley immigrants.
Just outside the reach of New York City’s dynamic network of resources, the Lower Hudson Valley has long suffered from a lack of legal services for immigrants. Catholic Charities Community Services had a vision to change that.
Since its inception in 2015, this partnership has recruited and deployed 8 legal fellows in two-year term assignments each, who have, over the course of the project, conducted almost 3,000 thousand consultations and taken on several hundred cases for representation.
Starting with their first class of Immigrant Justice Corps Justice Fellows in 2015, CCCS have used the IJC Fellowship program to permanently change the landscape of legal services in the Lower Hudson Valley.
The report highlights the successes achieved in this programming, including: training and incubation of the initiative, the creation of Community Legal Clinics, program outcomes, and the empowerment of immigrant communities to protect themselves against fraud.
There is much to be proud of, thanks to the focused and dedicated work of the IJC and Catholic Charities team. And thanks to those of you who have supported this legal program. Catholic Charities is delighted to be entering our 6th year of programming with IJC this coming year.
