Dear Neighbor,
Jesus Christ is Risen!
Every genuine Christian reflection takes in on the magnificent reality that Jesus has conquered sin and death and is risen to new life. As glorious as this mystery is, paradoxes abound. After the resurrection, Jesus would ascend to his heavenly home, but his disciples, then and now, do not follow him, yet. They, and we, continue earthly journeys in a world whose darkness, danger and evil have not been completely dispelled by the light and life of the risen Saviour.
In the midst of this enigma, we are challenged not merely to pass through, but to transform the world. As Passover this year coincides with Holy Week, I borrow from our Jewish sisters and brothers. Much of this begins with repairing the brokenness of the world, and moving toward creating a new world that more reflects the peace and justice of the kingdom of God.
Ominously, the Last Judgement scene in St. Matthew’s Gospel points out a roadmap for this work — individually and collectively — in feeding, welcoming, housing, visiting and other ways assisting those most in need.
I thank you for what you do as volunteers, donors, trustees and supporters to repair and transform the lives of thousands daily. What you do individually and collectively transforms the world toward healing, wholeness, peace and justice. What you do is Easter work! Thank you.
We do it together with your generous support. I want to thank you for making it possible for us to provide help and create hope for New Yorkers in need. We are so blessed to have you as a part of our community.
A Blessed Easter to you, your families, colleagues and friends.
With gratitude,

Msgr. Kevin Sullivan
