At the Heart of Service: How Our Development Associate Supports Donors and Those in Need

At Catholic Charities of New York, our mission is rooted in service to those who give, and to those who seek help. As a Development Associate, I have the privilege of serving as one of the first points of contact for many of our donors and constituents. Whether you’re reaching out to support our mission or in search of support yourself, I’m often the person who answers your call or responds to your email.

Through our dedicated donor helpline (646-794-2411) and main email inbox (cc.donations@CatholicCharitiesNY.org), I help guide donors through every step of their giving journey. From processing donations and providing timely acknowledgements, to explaining how their gifts directly support programs that assist New Yorkers in need, I strive to ensure every donor interaction reflects the deep gratitude and transparency they deserve. Sometimes that means helping someone increase their monthly gift, and sometimes, it means assisting them in cancelling one. No matter the reason, every interaction matters, because our donors are essential to the work we do.

But donor support is just one side of the coin.

Every month, I receive dozens of calls from individuals and families in crisis. These are New Yorkers looking for help, facing eviction, dealing with unpaid utility bills, seeking shelter or food, or navigating complex immigration issues. While our general helpline (888-744-7900) is the main contact point for many of these requests, I also work to connect callers directly to the appropriate services or offices, ensuring they speak with someone who can help or someone who understands their need and has the tools to assist them in that critical moment.

This continuous communication with both donors and constituents gives us invaluable insight into how we present information, what’s easy to find on our website, what’s confusing, and what we need to make more accessible.

That’s why we maintain and continually update our Donation FAQ Page. It’s built directly from the questions we hear every day, questions from people just like you. Whether you’re wondering how to make a gift in someone’s honor, need to update your contact information, or want to stop receiving solicitations by mail, the answers may already be there.

If you still have questions, of course, we’re here to help. But before you call or email, we encourage you to check out the FAQ page, and you might just find exactly what you need.

Whether you’re a generous donor or someone in urgent need of help, please know that at Catholic Charities of New York, your call matters. Your voice matters. And we’re here to serve.
