The New York Times Communities Fund

Join us in building on our 114-Year Legacy of creating a Better New York

Catholic Charities of New York is proud to be the oldest beneficiary of The New York Times Communities Fund (formerly The New York Times Neediest Cases Fund). For over a century, our partnership has enabled us to address and solve critical problems facing New Yorkers in need.

This year’s campaign goal is to raise $1M to support youth programming in two critical areas: special education and early intervention. In addition, this year’s donations will also support eviction prevention educational programming for adults.

Over a Century of Impact Together

Since 1911, the partnership between Catholic Charities and The New York Times has raised millions of dollars to deliver critical human services to the neglected child, the homeless family, the immigrant and refugee, the person with special needs, and the hungry senior, always with compassion and respect. We have driven transformative change across New York and advocated for a more just and compassionate society that reflects our shared core values.

“I am excited to continue the historic partnership between Catholic Charities and The New York Times Communities Fund this year as we collectively focus on our valuable educational programs for youth and adults in need. Support from this campaign is critical to our efforts and will enable us to provide essential programming at all stages of our clients’ lives.” -J. Antonio Fernández, CEO, Catholic Charities

Special Education and Early Intervention Services

Catholic Charities of New York offers a network of specialized support services to help children who have early developmental delays or who receive special education services. Our agencies provide critical programming that is designed to address the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of children and their families.

With your help, support raised from this campaign will fund much-needed programming for the children that we serve.

$2,835 provides one month of comprehensive special education services for at-risk youth.

$3,018 covers one month of robust early intervention services for our youngest children in need.

Housing Educational Programming

Catholic Charities and its network of agencies support households facing eviction and homelessness through a robust cohort of caseworkers; these caseworkers implement comprehensive service plans, including adult education classes, to teach community members how to avoid housing crises.

We work to assist our clients in managing household budgets, understanding tenant rights and responsibilities, maintaining positive landlord-tenant relationships, improving communication and conflict resolution skills, finding safe, affordable housing, and building basic job readiness skills.

These adult education classes collectively work to ensure that the short-term financial emergencies that bring a family to our agencies in search of eviction prevention services do not happen again.

A gift of $1,626 provides one client with a year of eviction prevention educational support.
