About Our Centennial
A 100-Year Legacy of Services Touching Almost Every Human Need…
Since 1917, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York has been supporting New Yorkers in need by
- Protecting & Nurturing Children & Youth
- Feeding the Hungry & Sheltering the Homeless
- Strengthening Families & Resolving Crises
- Supporting the Physically & Emotionally Challenged
- Welcoming & Integrating Immigrants & Refugees
However, this caring work that seeks to uphold the dignity of each person in the likeness of God extends back to the 19th century with the founding of charitable agencies by religious communities, clergy and laity. Today Catholic Charities is a vibrant network of agencies, independent in their structure and organization yet united by a common vision of human dignity and responsibility for the most vulnerable of our New York neighbors. This network of agencies has evolved into our federation of 90 agencies.
Catholic Charities helps those of all religions or no religion at all, and people of all nationalities. The common criteria among all those we help is: human need.
A New Century of Help & Hope
