Archbishop’s Committee for Charity

Service. Leadership. Impact.

A Legacy of Leadership Giving in New York

The Archbishop’s Committee for Charity is a distinguished leadership group of Catholic Charities of New York, bringing together business, civic, and philanthropic leaders committed to serving our neighbors most in need.

Founded during the Great Depression as the Cardinal’s Committee for Laity, the Committee has supported the Archdiocese of New York for nearly a century by helping provide resources that can be deployed swiftly and effectively — directed to communities where the need is most urgent, and the impact is greatest.

Today, Catholic Charities remains on the front lines of service throughout the Archdiocese of New York, providing critical support in times of hardship and helping families build pathways to stability and opportunity.

The Impact of the Archbishop’s Committee

The needs of New Yorkers are immediate and complex — food insecurity, housing instability, lack of access to education, mental health challenges, and family crisis affect individuals and communities.

The Archbishop’s Committee for Charity exists to ensure Catholic Charities can respond with urgency, compassion, and strength.

Members of the Committee play a vital role in advancing this mission by supporting high-impact initiatives and emergency needs as identified by Catholic Charities leadership and the Archdiocese.

2026 Fundraising Focus: Education and Technology for Opportunity

In 2026, gifts to the Archbishop’s Committee for Charity will support expanded access to education and technology for children and young people throughout New York City. This year’s fundraising will help bridge the digital divide by equipping students with the tools, skills, and learning environments they need to succeed academically and prepare for the future.

Funds raised will directly support updated technology resources at the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Center in Harlem and at Alianza, a youth-focused program serving at-risk children and families, primarily in Washington Heights and the Bronx. These investments will strengthen academic engagement, support educators and mentors, and improve educational outcomes for hundreds of young people across New York.
