Catholic Charities Help Line
At Catholic Charities Help Line, callers can connect to our live, trained, knowledgeable – and bilingual – staff.
Our staff assesses callers’ needs. They use up-to-date, reliable advice about available assistance. And they help callers overcome struggles by referring them to the help they need.
We offer a wide variety of resources. Our Help Line Operators can link callers to services from:
- Catholic Charities agencies
- Human service organizations
- Public benefit programs
And if our staff can’t answer questions right away, they research them and call back.

Coordinating Services/Case Mangagement
When one tragedy hits, more tragedies too often follow.
For example, job loss could come at the same time as a flood and an aging parent’s declining health. This can become particularly overwhelming when trying to navigate the very systems that are supposed to help. Catholic Charities knowledgeable professionals provide compassionate, coordinated support to help deal with multiple problems.
And we cut through the red tape. This can make the difference between getting help and giving up.
At Catholic Charities we see it every day: folks tapped out with nowhere else to turn.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors along with public and private sources, financial assistance is one of the tools our case managers can use to stabilize families in crisis.
We help prioritize needs, create a budget and set realistic financial goals. We also provide financial literacy classes to keep problems from reoccurring.
Anxiety, depression and conflicts over marital issues, raising children, caring for the elderly and losing a loved one can make it hard to cope. Catholic Charities counseling services are here to help.
We offer individual, couples and family counseling that assist with life’s challenges. Local parishes may also be able to intervene to access help.
Catholic Charities maternity services reach out with compassion to women with unplanned pregnancies and women with infants. We provide resources needed to build strong, responsible families.
This includes confidential counseling, medical care, housing assistance, parent education and infant-care classes. Our residential programs offer young mothers safe, nurturing homes. We also offer a comprehensive range of support services to assist throughout pregnancy and after the baby is born. We provide support with the decision to raise a child or plan for adoption. And for those who choose the life-affirming plan of adoption, we provide support throughout the emotional and practical aspects of this process.
Job Readiness & Placement
A decent job is the key to decent housing, financial stability and dignity. But finding a job can be tough, particularly for the most vulnerable. Young people entering the workforce, those aging out of foster care, immigrants, persons with disabilities and the long-term unemployed have a particularly hard time finding work.
Catholic Charities helps job seekers develop concrete skills. We offer employment training and placement programs geared for specific needs. Our services also include classes to pass TASC (formerly GED) exams, master English and develop job skills. And we help develop the experience and confidence needed to hold a job and maintain independence.
Disaster Response & Recovery
Catholic Charities provides help when disasters strike. From the World Trade Center disaster to Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy, Catholic Charities served as the premier provider and coordinator of disaster relief.
Our professional staff and volunteers visit parishes to deliver information and resources. We collect and distribute food and supplies. We tailor our response to meet individual needs. We provide help. We create hope. We rebuild lives.
Our case managers continue to provide long-term assistance for people impacted by Superstorm Sandy. Our professional staff answers questions about recovery. They help plan how to address long-term needs. They connect people to community resources. They determine what financial assistance may still be available. And they advocate with service providers.
Our Catholic Charities Disaster Case Management Program partners with fellow key providers of disaster relief. It has been working with the New York State Division of Homeland Security, the New York City Office of Emergency Management, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and multiple partner agencies.
