Cardinal McCloskey Community Services
Responding to the tragedy of thousands of homeless, abandoned and neglected children after World War II, Cardinal Spellman of the Archdiocese of New York asked the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill to administer and staff a home for displaced children. It was named in 1945 as a memorial tribute to the United States’ first Cardinal, John Cardinal McCloskey.
As time passed the agency adapted to meet changing needs. Today this Catholic Charities Alliance-sponsored agency provides and oversees foster care, family reunification and Head Start programs. It also offers group residences for teens, child care, adoption and prevention services and residential services for individuals with developmental disabilities.
