Opportunities for Children - This Summer

Here’s a roundup of our top four:

  1. Free Day Camp
That’s right; seven weeks of free camp thanks to Catholic Charities’ Alianza Highbridge Gardens Cornerstone in the Bronx. Located in the NYCHA Housing Complex Community Center, children play sports and create arts and crafts. Best of all, they get out of the housing complex and explore the city thanks to a variety of trips.

  2. Performing Arts
Boys and girls ages 6 – 12 experience dance, drum, create arts and crafts, garden, take trips and more for six weeks this summer thanks to the Project Performing Arts program held at Catholic Charities Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Center in Harlem.

  3. Jobs
Yes, jobs! We offer summer youth employment programs for teens and young adults that foster their talents and help them make money while they’re at it.

  4. Pre Vocational Program for the Blind
Catholic Charities Guild for the Blind offers teens with visual impairments their first work experience – including getting their first paycheck! People with visual impairments stand among those with the highest rates of unemployment so Catholic Charities starts early, when folks are still teens, to help explore career options. But it’s summer so it can’t be all work. So we match teens with visual impairments with staff and volunteers for three weeks to also tour attractions throughout the City. Highlights include touring NBC studios to learn about careers in broadcasting, visiting museums and exploring Prospect Park Zoo.
