Immigration Week Activity



WHO:   Volunteer immigration legal staff from Catholic Charities Immigrant and Refugee Services and other organizations in the New York area Univision 41, El Diario la Prensa and Radio WADO                                                     

WHAT: Will conduct its 4th “Know your Rights/Conozca Sus Derechos” Immigration Week Event: February 13 – 17, 2017, focusing on the recent Executive Orders by President Trump on Immigration and how these changes will impact immigrant communities. Immigration legal staff will answer questions and provide general information about the Executive Orders, as well as referrals to legal providers.

A phone bank will operate through the NYS New Americans Hotline: (800) 566-7636 from 4PM – 7PM each day of the initiative and will be staffed by volunteer immigration legal staff.

On Thursday, February 16, 2017, there will be a live feed on Univision Nueva York 's Facebook Page  4PM to 5PM. Berenice Gartner, reporter for Noticias Univision 41 A TuLado will host the live event.  She will be reading questions in Spanish and English from participants.  Volunteer attorneys from Catholic Charities Immigrant and Refugee Services, the Legal Aid Society and MFY will answer questions related to recent Executive Orders on immigration as they come in. This new component will give other immigrant groups the opportunity to participate in English.

Additionally Univision 41 will be doing stories each day of the initiative touching on immigration topics including Catch & Release; Discrimination/ Hate Crimes; Immigrant Victims of Crimes; and DACA.
