On August 3rd, in Goshen, New York, the 13th annual Catholic Charities Golf for Charity event happened at West Hill Country Club. The event raised $54,000 in much-needed funds for Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster Counties  – an agency of Catholic Charities of New York.

More specifically, the money Supports Addiction Treatment and Prevention, Social Safety-Net Services, and Other Community-Based Supports.

Catholic Charities board member Tom Fitzgerald, Vice President and Business Development Officer for Sterling National Bank, served as chairman of the 2019 Golf for Charity committee. He said in a statement prior to the event, “If you love golf, there is no better event than the annual Catholic Charities outing. It’s a fun-filled day of friendly competition, great food and prizes, and support for an important community organization. All of the money raised from the Golf for Charity outing goes to support an organization that is working every day to improve the lives of those in need in our community.”

Fitzgerald told the Record, “Our committee had two simple goals – ensure that everyone had a great time and achieve our fundraising target. I’m delighted that we hit the mark on both! The success of the outing was thanks to the generous support from sponsors, golfers, raffle donors, committee members, staff, and volunteers. Everyone came together for a fun day to raise much-needed funds to support Catholic Charities’ mission to provide help and create hope.”

Catholic Charities of New York has a very special relationship with the communities it serves. CCNY fosters healthy partnerships with state and city agencies, as well as business and community groups allowing it to have successful events just like this one.

But if you don’t like golf, that’s okay, Catholic Charities has numerous fundraising opportunities, like:

The Junior Board’s Midnight Run to feed the homeless on Wednesday, August 14th from 7:00 – 7:30 pm

There are bike rides, hikes, tours, street fairs – all for you.

You can keep track of Catholic Charities of New York special events by following our Event Calendar. This way you, and maybe your good friends, won’t miss the opportunity to help a family avoid a sand trap and keep them under par on the fairway so they can…I don’t know, make a birdie…I’m sorry I don’t play golf. Whatever your sport or hobby of choice, there’s always a way to make a difference (and maybe have some fun) for the folks Catholic Charities serves.
