Honored for her work with immigrants at the Texas border, Sister Norma Pimentel, MJ, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, received the Sister Margaret Cafferty Development of Peoples Award by the Catholic Campaign for Human Development in Washington, DC on February 2, 2019.  “What I do and what I’ve done is no different that [sic] what you all do. It’s our mission — what we accomplish together — that makes it happen,” Sister Pimentel expressed.

Monsignor Kevin Sullivan, Executive Director of Catholic Charities New York and Fr. Eric Cruz, Bronx Regional Director for Catholic Charities of New York, met Sister Norma while touring the Texas border last year. Their mission was, as Fr. Cruz states, “to witness, to accompany, to see and feel what injustice and indignation are, and declare - to coin Sister Norma Pimentel - that we, as Christians, must stand and “restore human dignity” and to proclaim Familias Unidas, No Divididas.”
