Catholic Charities of New York is looking for Director of Strategic Program Development and Special Initiatives. Reporting directly to the CEO and COO, the Director will engage in the broad scope of Catholic Charities work, including its federation of agencies and closely overseen programs and services. Specific agencies, programs and initiative focus will be identified for targeted attention on an annual basis. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of human services programs and experience in program development and operations. This position requires some out of state travel and some evening/weekend work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with CC and CCCS senior leaders to identify opportunities for program growth.

  • Engage with public and other non-profit partners to enhance collaborations that address community needs with the relevant CC/CCCS senior managers and in collaboration with the CC Department of Government, Community and Social Relations
  • Actively participate in the planning, development and implementation of internal strategies that strengthen the organization’s infrastructure. These may include nontraditional recruitment models, IT/tech literacy, staff training, etc.
  • In partnership with senior program managers, actively participate in the review of current program service models and performance to address weaknesses and threats, implement corrective action plans, exploit opportunities for growth and right-sizing.
  • Understand, collaborate and build on the ECM/Metrics initiatives of CC’s Senior Director of Program Outcomes to advance program operations (e.g. Alianza Youth Programs, Emergency Food and Housing Support Services.)
  • Participate in the agency’s response to new/emerging issues and emergencies, and as assigned, coordinate agency-wide responses with internal/external partners to deal with immediate and for longer term needs.
  • Develop and implement in partnership with appropriate senior managers, initiatives to strengthen synergisms among programs/services and establish formal and informal partnerships and joint ventures among agencies. (CCCS, Alliance & Affiliates).
  • Work on special initiatives/projects as needed and other job-related duties as assigned.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally 9:00 AM to 5 PM Monday – Friday, with some evening/weekend as needed. Additional hours may be required to meet program or project deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • 5-7 years-experience in human services program development and operations, preferably in a large organization with extensive and diverse programs.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of human services programs and delivery systems, emergency response experience a plus.
  • Advanced strategic planning and development skills with ability develop creative solutions to sticky problems and drive-through solution implementation.
  • Understanding of both private and government funding sources and managing budgets.
  • Understanding of data tracking and reporting systems and ability to analyze and understand data-based reports.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, experience presenting to executive leadership a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships inside and outside the organization.
  • Strong negotiation and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel out of state.

  • Frequent sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and reading.
  • Occasional standing, walking and lifting up to 10lbs.
  • Occasional travel to program sites throughout Manhattan, Bronx, Staten Island, and upper New York Counties and out of state travel.
