Job Title: Youth Advocate 

FLSA Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Classification: Professional 

Department: Alianza Division

Reports to: COMPASS Program Director 

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Summary: The Youth Advocate facilitates educational, and leadership workshops and other 
social-emotional activities. The Youth Advocate also provides guidance and counseling, refetTals, family support and advocacy assistance. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 


  • Provide individual and/or group guidance and counseling and academic assistance to youth.
  • Provide referrals for participants and their families to outside agencies as well as Inter-agency.
  • Maintain progress notes on participants in Outcomes; Collect and complete all necessary documentation and reports related to program activities.
  • Conduct educational and/or supportive groups for program participants.
  • Attend inter-office as well as outside agencies meetings, case conferences and other meetings as assigned.
  • Plan and use community resources that enrich the social-emotional learning of the participants.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a part-time position. Ability to work flexible hours is a requirement.

  • Remain in a stationary position while monitoring activities, providing instruction, or when at a work station.
  • Move for long periods, providing instruction.
  • Ability and patience to work with young people, particularly in group settings.​
Education and/or experience required:
  • Bachelor's Degree or, a minimum of five (5) years' working with at-risk youth in low-and-moderate income neighborhoods, in educational, training and/or leadership development settings.
  • Experience teaching or training individuals in group settings.​

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate participants.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent network-building and outreach skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact and work with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented and have the ability to work effectively under pressure in both team setting and individually.
  • Must be fingerprinted and cleared by NYC DOE and complete a background check.​
