Supervisory Responsibilities:



Summary: The Feeding Our Neighbors (FON) Department provides emergency meals to individuals and families

who face hunger and food insecurity throughout the Archdiocese of New York. Our goal is to provide healthy nutritious meals to anyone who is in need with compassion and dignity. This position will support the program operations as the liaison and coordinator between the Hub Supervisor and volunteer groups at our food programs across NYC.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manage our team(s) of volunteers and provide effective guidance based on directives and instructions from the FON Hub Supervisor and/or Director.
  • Responsible for supervising, managing and motivating team members on a daily basis. The team leader will provide an overview or orientation to volunteers of the project goals and agency expectations.
  • Handle all volunteers’ schedules, sign-in sheet, recorded hours, work tasks, team meetings, and deal with any discipline issues that may arise.
  • Primary point of contact for all team members. You should also be able to act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration.
  • Create an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture
  • Delegating tasks and set deadlines for your internal team progress\
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations, monitoring team performance and reporting on metrics
  • Provide training and articulate instructions as needed, and provide coaching
  • Listen to team members’ feedback and resolve any issues or conflicts
  • Communicate with FON leadership and provide suggestions to improve operations, and enhance volunteer cooperation and commitment

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday – Friday.

Some hours during the weekends and/or holidays may be required to meet program needs.

Working conditions and physical demands required:

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Organizing volunteer schedules, tasks, and related projects 80% of time
  • Moving and lifting of boxes, pallets, and/or cases of food products 15% of time, sometimes outside in cold weather.
  • Familiarity with NYC streets/roads/highways, traffic laws, and parking regulations
  • Traverse neighborhoods that may require a high level of alertness and awareness of surroundings.
  • Will need to work with diverse population of clients and programs throughout the NYC area.
  • Remain in a stationary position at a workstation and use a computer approximately 5% of the time.


Education and/or experience required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 3 years work experience as a team leader or supervisor

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:

  • Must have served as a volunteer for a human services organization
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact with diverse population of the public and work in various communities
  • Must maintain excellent relationships with internal personnel and external partners
  • Must be a team player and be supportive of program and community development projects
