Supervisory Responsibilities:



Summary: The Instructor facilitates creative and dynamic educational work readiness and leadership workshops for 11th and 12th grade students, and provides academic and vocational guidance, assisting youth in their transition from high school to college and the workforce.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Facilitate activities through engaging and dynamic afterschool workshops and classes. Workshop subject areas may include: Team Building, SAT prep, Leadership Development, Diversity Training, Life skills, Problem Solving, Community Involvement, Career and College Readiness.
  • Develop and implement curriculum to provide a positive learning experience for youth.
  • Maintain attendance logs and any other required documentation.
  • Provide individual and/or group academic assistance to youth.
  • Maintain monthly progress notes on participants; collect and complete all necessary documentation and reports related to program activities.
  • Attend student field trips and special events when necessary.
  • Participate in staff meetings, case conferences and other meetings as assigned.
  • Participate in planning and implementing field trips, speaker series and internship program.
  • Provide comprehensive college and work training options to all participants.
  • Maintain participant's attendance book
  • Assist with the development of summer sites for the summer internship program

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position working Monday - Friday. The ability to work flexible hours is a requirement.

Working conditions and physical demands required:

  • Travel for student field trips and special events using public transportation, traverse city streets; occasionally ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Remain stationary at a work station and use a computer at least 50% of the time.
  • Ambulate when instructing or facilitating workshops.


Education and/or experience required:

  • Bachelors' degree.
  • One (1) year experience teaching and working with youth.

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:

  • Demonstrated ability to create and facilitate dynamic programming for youth.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with the Internet and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to effectively interact and work with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Creative and able to think outside the box.
