FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Per diem (Temporary)

Department: Case Management

Reports to: Ulster County Regional Supervisor

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Summary: This position provides administrative and client support upon activation of the Wanning Center. This per-diem position is in collaboration with the Ulster County Department of Social Services. This position requires and individual to be available on assigned shift(s) in the event of inclement weather conditions. Answers telephone, greet. and supervise all clients in the center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 
  • Answers telephone, greet. and supervise all clients in the center.
  • Enter client infonnation into the Apricot database.
  • Assists in the set-up and breakdown of the warming center. (i.e. setting tables, handing out bedding, and person items)
  • Observing for subpar health conditions and contacting emergency medical services for people that present as not well.
  • Work compassionately with the Clients and maintain a friendly and inviting environment in the wanning center.
  • Ability to participate in evening and weekend work assignments, if the center is activated during this time.
  • Ensure participants adherence to rules, especially related to behaviors that are unsafe. If necessary, notify public safety personnel when a client need to exit the center for inappropriate or unsafe behaviors.
  • Effectively resolve conflict among participants and de-escalate unsafe situations.
  • Maintain daily paperwork and report all incidents to warming center coordinator.
  • Meets with the wanning center coordinator upon activation to prepare for assignment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Remain stationary at a work station and use a computer.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment i.e. copier, fax, scanner, postage machine and printer.
  • Ability to use and respond to phone calls.
  • Ability to work with the public and work with clients who require consistent and comprehensive support, some under potentially stressful conditions. 

Education and/or experience required:

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Some Human Services Experience (Preferred)​

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Some Human Services Experience (Preferred)
  • Proficiency with MS Office.
