Job Title: Property Accounting Manager 

FLSA Status: Full Time, Non Exempt

Department: Beacon of Hope 

Reports to: Assistant Director, Residential Services 

Supervisory Responsibilities: No 

Summary: Beacon of Hope (BOH), a Division of Catholic Charities Community Services, is a premier provider of supportive housing for the chronically mentally ill in New York City. The BOH Division provides multiple levels of residential services in the Bronx, Staten Island, and Brooklyn with the goal of supporting residents to live in the community with as much independence as possible. This position is primarily responsible for the oversight and management of all of Beacon of Hope's Supported Housing Apartment Leases and Subleases, tracking all rent credit and arrears information, and managing the Housing Court cases with an external law firm. Responsibilities include negotiating leases and processing all related paperwork, visiting new and existing apartments for assessments, monitoring and communicating housing court related information, and participating in facilities management conferences. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Maintain knowledge of all rent regulations requirements
  • Manage communication with landlords and property management companies
  • Visit apartments to assess potential rentals and to monitor property related issues
  • Negotiate new leases and renewal leases for apartments.
  • Maintain lease files for all rental units, including information maintained online
  • Participate in weekly Facilities Conferences and assist as needed around such issues
  • Track credit and rent arrears related information by completing analytical templates
  • Review and prepare referrals to Housing Court attorney group
  • Manage communications with Housing Court attorney group and track all related information
  • Coordinate admission and discharge activities with Intake Coordinator and Operations Managers
  • Assist with the completion of Low Income Housing Tax Credit Applications
  • Prepare leasing and real estate rental reports as requested
  • Support Licensed Housing operations as they related to property management related issues.
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned by Beacon of Hope Administrators

Working conditions and physical demands: 

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Remain in a stationary position at a work station and use a computer approximately 75% of the time.
  • Travel to apartments on Staten Island, Brooklyn, and in the Bronx to assess apartments at least 25% of the time using various modes of transportation, traversing streets, ascending/descending stairs, and exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Traverse neighborhoods that may require a high level of alertness and awareness of surroundings.
  • Assess and work in varied environmental conditions.

Qualifications: 

Education and/or experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences and/or accounting
  • Five years of real estate experience and/or financial/bookkeeping experience
  • Experience working with clients with Serious Mental Illness​

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies: 

  • Strong and effective communication and negotiating skills
  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational, time-management and communication skills
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office and spreadsheets
  • Must be courteous, responsive, and take initiative in the execution of job responsibilities​
