Summary: The Outreach Organizer will join Catholic Charities Community Services (CCCS) as part of a coordinated citywide initiative, ActionNYC, which will reach immigrant communities across New York City to connect individuals to free immigration legal consultations, document preparation, and application assistance. The Outreach Organizer will perform outreach at and schedule appointments for ActionNYC’s community navigation model at a select number of Community Schools to provide free immigration legal screening clinics and referrals for immigrant students and their families. The Outreach Organizer will build relationships with key staff at select DOE schools and meet assigned appointment metrics. The Outreach Organizer will also prepare and deliver presentations on various immigration topics. This position is ideal for an individual who is committed to the mission of serving immigrant families and someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a proven track record of handling multiple deadlines that require detail oriented focus and execution.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Under the supervision of the Outreach Coordinator, build relationships with key staff at select DOE schools.
  • Under the supervision of Outreach Coordinator, and in collaboration with school staff, schedule appointments for ActionNYC clinics.
  • Assist clients to obtain the documents necessary to prepare for legal consultations, fill out appropriate registration forms, and follow up with clients via phone, mail and email for confirmations and rescheduling needs.
  • Provide referrals for wraparound services.
  • Create and maintain physical and electronic files, including managing correspondence with clients and documenting correspondence with immigration and other agencies.
  • Manage data entry in internal (LLX) and external data management systems (as designated by ActionNYC) and assist with generating reports.
  • Prepare for and conduct presentations, workshops and outreach events on various immigration topics.
  • Maintain and report statistical data as required.
  • Assist with the training of new staff.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a part-time position that will require working part-time at rotating Community Schools. The remaining time will be spent performing administrative work at CCCS’ office. Days and hours of work will vary but will generally be in the range of 9:00 AM to 5 PM Monday - Friday. Position requires willingness to travel to all five (5) boroughs and availability to work some weekend and evening hours. Position will typically be assigned 15-20 hours per week. Additional hours may be required to meet outreach and/or program deadlines, or client needs.

  • Travel at least 50% of the time using public transportation or vehicle, traverse city streets, occasionally ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Remain stationary at a workstation, in meetings, and use a computer at least 50% of the time.
  • Remain stationary and/or ambulate to instruct and monitor during trainings and presentations.
  • Carry a laptop to offsite work locations.

Qualifications

Education and/or experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent professional training related to the position.

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required:

  • Bilingual: English plus a 2nd language.
  • Effective communications skills, including written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability and experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
  • Ability to work in a fast‐paced, high intensity environment.
  • Willingness to travel to all five (5) boroughs and to work part-time on location at schools.
  • Availability and readiness to work some weekend and evening hours.
  • A plus, but not required:
    • Experience working as an immigration legal administrative assistant or advocate; and
    • Demonstrated a commitment to social justice issues and experience working in a non-profit or community setting.
