Job Title: Job Developer 

FLSA Status: Full Time, Non-exempt 

Classification: Professional 

Department: Refugee Resettlement

Office: 80 Maiden Lane and Yonkers 

Reports to: Director of Refugee Resettlement 

Summary: The job developer will carry out employment support and job placement activities in accordance with requirements set by the Department of State, the Office of Refugee Resettlement and the New York State Bureau Refugee Services. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

Job Development 

•    Establish contact and build working relationships with area employers.
•    Maintain database and job bank of employer details.
•    Locate appropriate employment opportunities for refugees through telephone contact, on-site visits, Internet and direct correspondence with potential employers.
•    Attend job fairs and respond to job advertisements posted by businesses.
•    Negotiate hourly salary and wages with business community and serve as an advocate for refugee employment.

Job Counseling 

•    Develop a comprehensive employment plan for each employable adult utilizing standard forms and procedures.
•    Identify potential barriers to early employment and develop an appropriate action plan in coordination with case management and training staff.
•    Coordinate with case management and education staff on service delivery.
•    Assess clients' employment barriers and plan for and make appropriate interventions.
•    Assist in planning, coordinating and facilitating job readiness classes for refugees.
•    Assist refugees with all aspects of job preparation, including completing job applications, preparing resumes for all employable adults, conducting mock job interviews, appearance counseling, and navigating the public transportation         system.
•    Counsel refugees on the benefits of early job placement and self-sufficiency.
•    Counsel refugees on US workforce protocols, including payroll procedures, tax withholding, payroll deductions and benefits packages.
•    Accompany refugees to job interviews as needed.

Qualifications: 

Education and/or experience required: 

•    BA in business, marketing, commerce, community relations or other relevant field; or 4+ years of related experience in the field.
•    Strong computer skills; ability to utilize the database system as primary source for all service-related documentation.
•    Ability to work with multicultural caseload and diverse staff and serve as strong advocate for refugees.
•    Strong communication skills.
•    Ability to represent the agency in public forums and meetings with local employers.
•    Strong organizational skills.
•    Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines and goals.
