Summary: The Adult Education Program Coordinator will develop, implement, recruit and organize classes for the George Washington Education Campus Adult Education classes. Classes will include English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and, depending on need job readiness, civics, and computer skills. This position requires supervision of 4 part-time Family Recruiters. The Adult Education Program Coordinator works collaboratively with the two Community School Directors in the building to develop and implement Adult Education program activities with a special emphasis on communicative competence. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  1. Recruit, retain and track adult learners for Adult Education Classes. 
  2. Work collaboratively with the building Community School Directors, the 4 principals and their respective schools to offer quality adult education classes to the George Washington Educational Campus community.
  3. Coordinate data collection and reporting for accountability, and program review. 
  4. On a daily basis, take a head count in each class and enter number of students present into Google Docs prior to the end of the school day. 
  5. Collects time sheets and time cards from per session staff and ensures that information recorded on the time sheet is accurate prior to signing. 
  6. Participate in campus meetings, represent and advocate for the Adult Education Program. 
  7. Provide general program support. Includes conducting new student orientation, registration, pre and post-testing students, class scheduling, and maintaining student portfolios and files. 
  8. Supervise and support 4 Family Recruiters, supporting in recruitment and retention, computer literacy, and phone skills. 
  9. Participate in training and staff development workshops as necessary. 
  10. Support and act as liaison between schools supervising Assistant Principal and the Mid-Manhattan Adult Learning Center. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a Full-time position. Ability to work afternoons, evenings and Saturdays.

  • Remain stationary and/or ambulate for the duration of instruction and presentations, addressing and/or monitoring students at least 40% of the time. 
  • Remain in a stationary position at a work station and use a computer at least 60% of the time. 


Education and/or experience required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree. 
  • Experience working with adult learners. 
  • Experience with community outreach a plus. 

Skills, Licenses and/or competencies required: 

  • Highly motivated and self-starter. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. 
  • Computer literacy; familiarity with MS Office Suite and social media. 
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
