Grant Programs

The Catholic Charities Campaign for Charity and Justice funds  two types of grants.

Parish Social Ministry Initiatives

Parish Social Ministry grant awards  range from $2,000 to $10,000. 

Parishes, clusters of parishes or deaneries are eligible to apply for a grant to support and promote works that fall into the categories of outreach, organizing, service, and social ministry.

Community & Economic Development Projects

Community & Economic Development grant awards range from $20,000 to $40,000. 

Eligible Community Organizations will be working to address the root causes of poverty, through direct organizing and/or advocacy, with the goal of empowering low-income persons  to  change problematic structures and barriers in their communities. Grants may be utilized to support initiatives that engage the poor and vulnerable in creating safe, decent jobs, and/or to develop assets that will be owned by or benefit local communities.

Grant Information and Qualifications

  • Applicants must be 501(c)3 not-for-profits or have a 501(c)3 fiscal sponsor
  • Applicants must not support or promote activities that contradict the teachings of the Catholic Church nor use grant funds to support or oppose political candidates.
  • Applicants should seek to significantly involve those impacted in directing the project.

Sample Projects

These are the types of projects eligible for grants. 

  • Children & Youth: A parish in Orange county provides diapers, baby formula and other necessities to low-income families along with referrals for other essential services. 
  • Food & Shelter: A parish in Harlem runs a food pantry which is open to all community members in need while also providing families with health and nutrition information to promote healthier lifestyles. 
  • Family Support: A parish in the Bronx is working to help families maintain stability, providing temporary relief and eviction prevention assistance so that moments of crisis do not cause families to spiral deeper into trouble. 
  • People with Disabilities: A parish in Rockland provides outreach, fellowship and formation to adults with various developmental disabilities along with support for their families. 
  • Immigrants & Refugees: A faith-based community organization works to empower, educate, and involve the community through educational workshops, civic engagement, and local outreach to assist immigrants obtain assistance and needed services.
