Marking its most successful gala ever, Cardinal Timothy Dolan and the Catholic Charities Board of Trustees teamed last night, March 9, with a host of dignitaries and donors to pack the gilded Waldorf-Astoria and raise more than $2.6 million in private funds to serve people in need.

The gala benefit honored Stephen C. Friedheim, CIO and Founder, Cyrus Capital Partners and J. Tomilson Hill, President and CEO of Blackstone’s Hedge Fund Solutions Group for their service and generosity helping sustain the work of Catholic Charities.

"Catholic Charities is an essential part of the fabric of this great city." Mr. Freidheim said. "It is the support and hope…for the many New Yorkers of all faiths who’ve unfortunately fallen on hard times."

Mr. Hill agreed. “I’ve always admired Catholic Charities collaborative work and the difference they make in communities throughout the city,” he said, “but particularly those where the need is greatest.”

Gala headliners also included award-winning NBC 4 Reporter Lynda Baquero who gave a powerful welcome, New York City Fire Fighter William Arce who belted out God Bless America plus a special musical performance from Broadway’s Mystery of Edwin Drood leading lady, Stephanie J. Block.

Catholic Charities Board of Trustees underwrote costs of the dinner for more than 600 guests plus Broadway entertainment to ensure all donations undergird the work of Catholic Charities. Their support underscored donor’s confidence that donations to Catholic Charities are well used and well stewarded.

“Simply put, the monies raised allow us to provide more help and create more hope for our neighbors who are struggling,” said Executive Director, Monsignor Kevin Sullivan. “Last night’s gala highlights the critical role Catholic Charities plays in building a better New York for those in need.”
