Take back your unused prescription drugs this Saturday, January 21, and save a life.  Catholic Charities of Orange and Sullivan is teaming up with Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force to organize Prescription Drug Take Back Days – and already helped collect more than 1,700 pounds of unwanted prescriptions!

Catholic Charities provides alcohol and substance abuse treatment and support for those seeking recovery and for the families who love them.

Join us and drop off unwanted pills at:

  • Grover Herman Hospital lobby on State Route 97 in Callicoon - 1/21: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • Fallsburg, Liberty and Monticello Police stations – any time throughout the year
  • Dept. of Family Services Robert Travis Building in Liberty 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays

Here are the top terrifying reasons why – compiled by

  1. Prescription drug abuse now stands as the epicenter of drug abuse and addiction.
  2. More people die from opioid prescription painkillers than from heroin and cocaine combined.
  3. The number treated for prescription painkiller drug abuse quadrupled during the past decade.
  4. After marijuana, prescription and over-the-counter meds account for most of the top drugs abused by 12th graders.
  5. Nearly 1/3 of all 12th graders surveyed abused prescription meds in the past year.
  6. Top prescription drugs abused by teens include those most available in home medicine cabinets: ADHD stimulant Adderall, Vicodin and cold medicines.
  7. More than half of prescription drug abusers say they got them “from a friend or relative for free.”
  8. All opioid-based pain killers, even steroids often prescribed for athletes, sleep medications and more can lead to addiction.
