Stand Together NY!

By Sandy Strk

Marketing Manager, Catholic Charities NY

In a moving display of solidarity, people of all faiths gathered last Friday, March 22, 2019, to stand in unity for our sisters and brothers of the Muslim faith.  Nearly two hundred of us formed a human walkway in front of the Islamic Center at NYU in Downtown Manhattan to show our love and support for all Muslims worldwide. The event, called “Stand Together NY”, had been organized by leaders representing multiple faiths to, as our Executive Director Msgr. Kevin Sullivan said, “show solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters after the horrific massacres in New Zealand.”

At least 15 of us from Catholic Charities NY joined hundreds of others as we stood against the Islamic Center’s building wall. Dozens of prayer worshippers then walked passed us to attend Friday’s afternoon services. They shook our hands, thanked us and were genuinely touched at the display of love and support that was shown to them today.

It was an honor to join Msgr. Sullivan, UJA President Eric Goldstein and fellow faith leaders and worshippers; I felt blessed part of the interfaith rally and show my support.
