All You Need to Know

Our ten Team Catholic Charities NY runners are soaking their calves, lacing their sneakers and running their final sprints as they prepare for the Big Day,  Sunday, November 4, AKA the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon. Now, with just three weeks to go, we have all you need to know to make the most of this 26.2-mile block party through the world’s most diverse city.

And already, what a race it has been!  Our Team Catholic Charities NY members have been blogging about what spurred them to join our team.  A surprising number wrote about how those they love most inspired their run:

  • James Tuomey says his first NYC Marathon memory was as a six-year-old so small he had to stand on a light pole to see his father in the race. Now, 25 years later, he is running the New York Marathon himself.
  • Meanwhile, Lexi Moutafakis shares how children she teaches in the Bronx, many of whom face poverty and receive help from Catholic Charities NY, inspire her run.
  • Not to be outdone, Brian Williams sees his run with Team Catholic Charities NY as almost inevitable thanks to his admiration for his father, an avid runner, and his aunt, a trustee and volunteer with Catholic Charities NY.

Together they and fellow teammates are raising thousands of dollars for Catholic Charities.

The bulk of money raised goes to our Catholic Charities St. Nicholas Project, a year-round program that distributes coats, blankets and basic necessities to New Yorkers in need.
