So Much More Than 18 Holes

The cocked shotgun clicked twice  - then exploded - “Poom!” to kick off the 30th Annual Cardinal's Golf Open at Winged Foot yesterday, May 9th as celebrities joined 58 foursomes to tee off at the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck.

Together they celebrated a perfect spring day, were challenged by one of America’s top courses and, most important, raised money for tens of thousands of people served by Catholic Charities.

Sports heroes and New York icons that joined Cardinal Dolan in celebrating this signature event included:

  • Former NY Jets player Joe Klecko
  • Former NY Mets player Rusty Staub
  • Fox 5 Sports Anchor Duke Castiglione
  • Co-Anchor of Fox 5’s Good Day Wake Up Ben Simmoneau
  • Former Mets player John Franco
  • Former NY Rangers player Mike Richter
  • Current NY Rangers player Marc Staal
  • Current  NY Rangers player Keith Yandle
  • Legendary Sportscaster Sal Marchiano

And the day did not end after 18 holes. During dinner, players and guests feverishly bid on sports and Broadway tickets and one-of-a-kind autographed items. Auctioneer– better known as former NY Mets Great – Rusty Staub – energized the crowd with a live auction that included golf trips to Kiawah Island, Pebble Beach and even Ireland!

Throughout the year, a variety of special events support the work of Catholic Charities. These events are festive, fun opportunities to come together to raise essential funds to provide help and create hope for thousands of New Yorkers in need.
