“The Children of New York Nestled Snug in Their Beds…”

Ready for a Christmas treat?  Check out this fun updated version of “The Night Before Christmas” by retired Citigroup Senior VP Victor Menezes.  Also a Catholic Charities Board Member, Mr. Menezes shared it while accepting the Spirit of St. Nicholas Award at the Cardinal’s Christmas Luncheon at the New York Hilton on December 6, 2017.

THE SPIRIT OF ST. NICHOLAS

(with apologies to Clement Clarke Moore)

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Msgr. Kevin was working, not just clicking a mouse

Uptown and downtown, east and west he flew

Right from his office at 1011 First Avenue.

Catholic Charities helps people with respect and grace

As you would want to be treated if you were in their place.

It is led and inspired with vigor and vim

By the energetic, ever-cheerful, Eminence Cardinal Tim.

There are hungry to be fed

And homeless to bed

Refugees to welcome and families to bind

Children and youth to protect and mind

For the physically and emotionally challenged, some comfort and joy to find.

The great Catholic Charities team whose work is never done

They tirelessly minister to everyone

Jewish and Christian, Hindu, Sunni and Shia

We help not because they are Catholic, but because we are.

With the Ladies of Charity, they bring hope and good cheer

To the less fortunate women and children right here

Thanks to you all in the room this year,

They will fill St. Nicholas’ sled

With warm coats, toys, Christmas goodies and bread.

The children of New York will be nestled all snug in their beds

While visions of sugar plums dance in their heads.

St. Nicholas flies fast calling out by name

Now Dasher!  Now Dancer!  Now Prancer and Vixen!

On Comet!  On Cupid!  On Donner and Blitzen!

St. Nicholas spreads his happy bounty

From Staten Island to Sullivan County

From Hudson to Harlem, from the Bronx to the Wall

Now dash away!  Dash away!  Dash away all!

Flying high above St. Nicholas exclaims as he speeds away

Happy Christmas to all here!  And thank you for your generosity today.
