Reaffirming Our Solidarity With Immigrants & Refugees
01/26/2017 | Statements from Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities reaffirms our solidarity with immigrants and refugees who come to this nation to make a better life for themselves, their families, and their neighbors. This is particularly important in times of uncertainty and anxiety.
The newly issued Executive Orders impact areas of immigration policy in ways that are deeply disconcerting and troubling. Catholic Charities expertise and history of welcoming and integrating newcomers to the United States gives us deep familiarity with their needs and contributions. The Executive Orders cause us concern, mostly because they put forward an attitude and approach that first views immigrants as a threat and liability. We view immigrants as an opportunity and asset.
We will continue to engage and share the experience and realities of New Americans among us. As we have throughout our history, we will protect, support, and empower immigrants and refugees to become valued members of their new communities. Despite our serious concerns, we are committed to working with the new administration for the sake of immigrants and refugees whose lives and struggles we know well.
