The Notre Dame Club of the Mid-Hudson Valley in partnership with Catholic Charities Community Services of Dutchess County and Ulster County Catholic Charities kicked off a two week food drive on Monday March 16th. The collection phase of the drive is centered at eleven area elementary and high schools but everyone is welcome to participate. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the Poughkeepsie Catholic Charities office located at 218 Church Street from Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Distribution to local area food pantries, as designated by Catholic Charities, will be made on Saturday.
The food drive will be concluded Saturday at the 4:30 pm Mass at St Mary’s Church in Poughkeepsie and followed immediately by a reception there to be attended by Steven McDonald,
NYPD and star running back, Randy Kinder, one of Notre Dame’s top running backs of all time. There will be extra parking nearby, for the Mass and reception, at Charities (218 Church Street) and the Darrow Funeral Home (39 South Hamilton Street).
BOLD is being chaired by Erin Rider, ND ’11 who emphasized that BOLD helps keep local food pantries stocked at this time of year. It becomes a teachable moment for students in participating schools, developing future leaders who learn that their actions can make a difference in bettering our local community.
