Security Guard

Location: New York, NY

FLSA Status: Part-time, Non-Exempt

Reports to: Program Director 

Department: Alianza Division

Office: MOSAIC Beacon Community Center 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes

Summary: The Security Guard is responsible for the security and safety of program participants and staff. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Monitor all persons entering and leaving the building. 
  • Maintain an accurate sign-in sheet in reception area. 
  • Conduct emergency evacuations and/or fire drills. 
  • Develop a distribution system for the portable radios that will minimize the possibility of theft. 
  • Keep a well-represented image of the Agency in the reception area. 
  • Complete and submit all incident reports. 
  • Be informed of all activities. 
  • Conduct routine checks of the building. 
  • Create a security plan with the Beacon Director. 
  • Keep the Beacon Director informed of any irregularities. 
  • Maintain a Visitor Log. 
  • Visually check all Beacon space at the beginning and end of each day. 
  • Supervise SYEP participants that will serve as Hall Monitors/Office Aides. 
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 

  • During School Year - Monday to Friday 5pm to 9pm, and 9am to 3pm Saturdays. 
  • During Summer - July and August Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. 

Working conditions and physical demands required

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Remain in a stationary position while monitoring security/reception and adjacent areas. 
  • Move and ambulate around the building, ascend/descend stairs, while monitoring hallways, classrooms, gym, closets, and any area that people may enter with or without authority. 
  • Ability and patience to work with children, young people and adults. 


Education and/or experience required: 

  1. High School Diploma or GED; pursuing College Degree a plus. 
  2. Two (2) years’ experience working in youth services. 

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required: 

  • Security Certifications.
