Dance Instructor

Office: Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center 

Reports to: Program Director 

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Summary: The Dance Instructor is responsible for teaching different styles of Dominican folk dances and educate students about the background of each dance; teach performance techniques for future performances; and, develop and sustain a complete dance curriculum. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  1. Compose dance routines and organize dance presentations. 
  2. Engage participants to promote team building skills that will help them express themselves. 
  3. File and update participant files. 
  4. Keep daily attendance for all courses. 
  5. Submit weekly reports to Program Director. 
  6. Coordinate events with the Alianza Cultural Center Manager. 
  7. Keep the Program Director informed of any changes and abnormalities. 
  8. Recruit and support to Leadership Program. 
  9. Attend all weekly staff meetings. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a part-time position with general hours Monday-Friday and some Saturdays, 12 hours weekly.

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings. 
  • Remain in a stationary position either working at a computer or monitoring choreography. 
  • Dance for long periods, providing instruction. 
  • Travel when performing off-site or taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions, while escorting youth. 


Education and/or experience required: 

  • High School Diploma or GED, working towards AA or BA degree in the Arts a plus. 
  • 3 years’ experience in teaching dance and high level of knowledge in Creative Expression. 
  • Experience with lesson plan development. 

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required: 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
