Join us as keynote speaker, Harvard Kennedy School Professor, the Rev. J. Bryan Hehir, discusses Catholic Charites in the 21st Century with two renowned panelists - New York Times Op-Ed Columnist Ross Douthat, and GCP Capital Partners, LLC Chairman Robert Niehaus - at the inaugural Edward Cardinal Egan Forum. The speakers will address the present-day challenges and opportunities facing Catholic Charities in building partnerships that foster a just and compassionate society.

This timely discussion, sponsored by the Magnificat Foundation, will focus on the nature and scope of Catholic Charities' work to promote the dignity of every human person. It will highlight the importance of strong alliances and Catholic Charities' work to catalyze partnerships across sectors and perspectives in a 21st century marked by hightened divisiveness in public discourse in the United States and abroad.

Meet the Panelists:

  1. Rev. J. Bryan Hehir is the Parker Gilbert Montgomery Professor of the Practice of Religion and Public Life at The Harvard Kennedy School. He is also the Secretary for Health Care and Social Services in the Archdiocese of Boston. His research and writing focus on ethics and foreign policy and the role of religion in world politics and in American society. He served on the faculty of Georgetown University (1984 to 1992) and the Harvard Divinity School (1993 to 2001). His writings include: “Theology, Social Teaching and Catholic Charities” and “Social Values and Public Policy: A Contribution from a Religious Tradition.”
  2. Ross Douthat is Op-Ed Columnist for The New York Times and author of “Bad Religion: How We Became a Nation of Heretics."
  3. Robert Niehaus​ is Chairman of GCP Capital Partners, LLC and chairs the New York Catholic Foundation and Student Sponsor Partners. He is past Chair of Good Shepherd Services.
