Hurricane Harvey Relief: Best Ways You Can Help

Top “Do’s” and “Don’ts”

Here at Catholic Charities, we are monitoring Hurricane Harvey’s wrath as it tears through Texas and Louisiana and want to help those hurt by the storm.

Help will be needed for months to come.  We will update everyone about potential volunteer deployments to the region.

If you would like to support the recovery effort, here’s what you can do now to help:

DO:

  1. Remember, Texas and Louisiana are still in response mode.  When the storm finally stops, we will have a better sense of its damage and when it will be safe to begin recovery efforts.
  2. Donate to support our disaster relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey and related floods. Get your funds there fast by donating directly to CatholicCharitiesUSA.org/Donate-to-Hurricane-Harvey-Relief
  3. Text to CCUSADISASTER to 71777.  Catholic Charities USA is the official domestic disaster relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church.
  4. Find inspiration in this inspiring “Hurricane Harvey: Hearts & Help” message from Catholic Charities NY Executive Director Msgr. Kevin Sullivan.
  5. Stay tuned for Msgr. Sullivan’s upcoming Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief special aired on JustLove radio this Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10am EST on SIRIUS XM Satellite Radio on The Catholic Channel 129.
  6. If you want to volunteer: Clear up your current responsibilities now so you’re ready to volunteer as soon as safely possible and the alert goes out that they are ready for volunteers.

DON’T:

  1. DO NOT self-deploy at this time. The situation is still critical.  Highways and secondary roads are underwater.  Travel is extremely difficult or unsafe throughout much of the affected areas.
  2. DO NOT bring supplies or donations to fire stations, police departments, etc. First responders need to focus on immediate needs and emergency situations.
