We Stand in Solidarity

By Msgr. Kevin Sullivan
Executive Director, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New York

Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Texas as they deal with the onslaught of Hurricane Harvey.  We are saddened by the death of 14 individuals discovered so far and also thank God that the death toll was not greater.

We have already reached out to Catholic Charities USA with offers of assistance to the people of Texas. We will continue to look for ways that we might appropriately help.

We give thanks for the already evident rescue workers who have saved thousands of lives by their dedicated and heroic efforts.

Our experience in New York after the terrorist attack of 9/11 and the natural devastation of Super Storm Sandy has taught us that recovery from disasters takes a longtime, is multi-faceted and needs to be individualized for each person and family.

We stand in solidarity with the people of the Gulf Coast and continue offer our prayers and assistance.

Hurricane Harvey has brought widespread flooding and damage. Many families will need short-term and long-term recovery services to rebuild their lives.
