Free School Supplies for Children We Serve

How Catholic Charities Sets Children Up for Success

It's time for Back-to-School shopping and we want to make sure children we serve at Catholic Charities are set up for success.

So from Staten Island to Sullivan County we’re hosting and participating in school supply giveaways. We’re giving children in need backpacks, pens, paper -  the school supplies they need to succeed.  And we’re pairing these giveaways with services for their families, offering social services that empower them towards independence.

Highlights include our collaboration last Saturday, August 5, 2017, with New York City Council Member Andy King at Community Engagement Day held at the Evander Childs High School football field in the Bronx.  Music serenaded neighbors as they lunched on free food, played on games and rides, and checked out more than 50 fellow community-based exhibits.  Families received free health services including dental screenings, flu shots and more.

Meanwhile, Catholic Charities handed out to children in this challenged community 500 book bags loaded with school supplies.  We also offered their parents information about our Homebase housing and social services.

Need School Supplies?

Don’t worry if you missed that book bag give-away.  We have plenty more giveaways scheduled for children we serve!

For example, Catholic Charities is teaming with NYC Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr. and the NYPD for another Back-to-School event on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bill Rainey Park in the Bronx.

Once again, we’ll be giving away

Our Preserving Housing program provides homelessness prevention services for families and individuals facing imminent eviction.  Our staff assesses the situation.  They work with individuals and families to create comprehensive plans that respond to the immanent emergency.  And they help avoid future crises.  To access rent subsidies and other government programs our caseworkers work with landlords, legal services, fellow community-based organizations and financial management programs.
