Free Legal Clinic for Haitian Immigrants

Join Catholic Charities in Rockland County!

Looking for a free legal clinic to answer the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) recent “Handle Your Affairs” warning to Haitians temporarily living in the U.S.?

That’s what DHS officials warned when they agreed last month to extend by only six months the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation Haitians received in the U.S. after the 2010 earthquake.

We’re holding it in Rockland County, home to a large Haitian population, but folks from all over are welcome:

  2. Free immigration legal consultations for all
  3. Free Services & resources for immigrant families
  4. Free "Know Your Rights" training (What to do during contact with I.C.E.)

Important:  This Free Event is by appointment only!  Walk-ins will not be guaranteed a consultation.

Don’t need help but want to volunteer?

If you are fluent in Haitian Creole and English, come join us at our first Rockland County Community Legal Clinic, and serve your community.

  • Dedicated, personable volunteers are needed for information gathering, legal screenings and application assistance.
  • You will meet with prospective clients, gather information about their journey to the United States, their life histories and work with Catholic Charities attorneys to inform immigrants about their rights and legal options.
  • Training will be provided in advance
  • Two shifts are available:  9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

This free legal clinic is part of Catholic Charities efforts to provide concrete advice during this time of heightened attention and fear in the immigrant community.

Catholic Charities recently:
  • Held 150 community events and Know Your Rights presentations
  •  Developed an archdiocesan emergency response line
  • Deployed legal staff to enhance large-scale clinical programs
