That’s right! The gently used professional attire you no longer wear can help struggling women land jobs.
Thanks to – believe it or not – tuition-free job training and placement our Catholic Charities affiliate, Grace Institute, has been helping struggling women get their foot in the door as administrative assistants and more for over a century. Now as its comprehensive job-training this semester comes to a close and its job placement services kick into full gear we need your help. Your gently used professional attire will get a second life by helping women we serve make a good impression on interviews and on their first days of work.
Grace’s history is awesome. Twice elected New York City mayor and shipping magnate William Russell founded it in 1897. And the Sisters of Charity originally staffed this Catholic Charities affiliate. Grace Institute provides job-skills training, counseling, placement services and continuous learning opportunities that lead to upwardly mobile employment, empowering underserved women in the New York area achieve employment, economic self-sufficiency and realize their limitless potential.
Grace Institute’s twice annual Dress with Grace event allows volunteers to provide Grace women with styling advice and assist them in selecting professional attire from our suit collection.
You can help us boost a woman's confidence by donating new and gently used work wear (especially sizes 12-44W), accessorizes and shoes, such as:
- Interview appropriate skirt and pant suits
- Blouses, blazers and jackets
- Professional shoes
- Practical handbags and briefcases
- Simple but complimentary accessories
- Plus size professional attire (sizes 12-44W)
- We need volunteer clothes sorters from April 19th to May 1st.
- We need volunteer clothes stylists on May 2nd volunteers are needed from 11 AM-3 PM and 6 PM- 8 PM.
For more than a century, Grace Institute has provided tuition-free job-training skills for women. Grace Institute’s semester-long fulltime program includes intensive computer, business writing and career-development classes. Staff prepares students for interviews. They draw on the institute’s extensive lists of employer contacts to arrange meetings. The goal is to help students land solid jobs, become self sufficient and improve the quality of their and their families’ lives.
