Cardinal Dolan Rings Opening Bell; Thanks Generous Donors

More than 120 donors and supporters celebrated a special thank you celebration on June 19, 2017, cheering as Cardinal Timothy Dolan rang the Opening Bell on Wall Street and sharing a special bacon-and-eggs Wall Street breakfast that honored Catholic Charities’ centennial of service.

This annual breakfast – made special this year with a speech from New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli in honor of Catholic Charities’ historic century of service- is a premier event of our Cardinal’s Committee for Charity.

A caring group of leaders in the New York business community who support Catholic Charities at the Cardinal’s request, the Cardinal’s Committee for Charity reflects the breadth and depth of New York and the businesses located here.  They provide financial resources and counsel to help solve the problems of New Yorkers in need.

The Cardinal's Committee for Charity seeks to attract a wide circle of New Yorkers to ensure that the business community's tradition of philanthropy continues into the future. The generosity of members enables tens of thousands of individuals and families to live with greater dignity through the compassionate help of Catholic Charities.

This special thank you event began with an early breakfast, speeches and camaraderie with leaders and donors. Then, at 9:30am, with a gong far louder than any of the alarm clocks that helped the participants arrive on time, Cardinal Dolan kicked off the trading day.

As we look back at our legacy or service and forward to meeting New Yorkers’ future needs, we are mindful of how much this key support means.  It has helped nurture and protect children and youth and strengthen families; feed the hungry and shelter the homeless; support the emotionally and physically challenged so they may live their lives with dignity and welcome and integrate newcomers, immigrants and refugees.

So, once again, we ring the bell in gratitude for their generosity and all the support we have received during our 100-year legacy serving New Yorkers in need.
